Arkaim is a circular settlement from the Bronze Age located in the southern Ural region of Russia. The site dates to around 2000 BC and belongs to the so-called Sintashta culture. Arkaim was carefully planned with ring-shaped houses, walls, gates, and an advanced drainage system. Archaeological finds show that the inhabitants had knowledge of metalworking, social organization, and astronomical alignments. The site has attracted considerable attention because it suggests a more advanced social structure than was previously believed to have existed at that time.
