Bigfoot is described as a large, bipedal, hairy creature that, according to thousands of witnesses, is said to roam through the deep forests of the Northwest. For more than half a century, people have reported everything from massive footprints to brief encounters at dawn and dusk, but none of these findings have ever been scientifically confirmed. Despite analyses of hair, films, and plaster casts, no DNA samples, skeletal remains, or other concrete traces have pointed to an unknown species. Most biologists believe that the sightings are likely bears, misidentifications, and the human mind filling in the gaps when something unexpected appears in the forest. At the same time, the stories continue to live on because they connect folklore, the mystery of the wilderness, and humanity’s need to believe that something may still exist beyond the map.
