On Malta and Gozo, there are some of the world's oldest stone monuments, built by an unknown culture between 3600 and 2500 BC, using construction techniques that were ahead of their time. Their temples, such as Ġgantija and the Ħal Saflieni Hypogeum, display advanced architecture, astronomical orientation, and acoustic properties that appear to have been deliberately created. More than 7,000 skeletons were found in the Hypogeum, several of which had elongated skulls that cannot be explained by known human variations and that later disappeared under unclear circumstances. This has given rise to theories about a lost elite, genetic abnormalities, or even visitors from other worlds with knowledge of sound, energy, and stone. What remains are the temples as an enigmatic legacy – built with a precision, symbolism, and silence that still defy our understanding.
