Atlantis: Traces of a Lost Civilization

According to Plato, Atlantis was an advanced island civilization said to have existed beyond the Pillars of Hercules and to have been destroyed in a flood. It has become a subject of fascination and is often linked to lost civilizations around the world.

Atlantis was a mythical island kingdom first described by the philosopher Plato in the 4th century BCE. According to the account, Atlantis lay beyond the Pillars of Hercules (modern-day Gibraltar) and was larger than Libya and Asia combined. The realm was said to be technologically advanced, rich in resources, and ruled by descendants of Poseidon. Atlantis was destroyed in a single night by earthquakes and floods as punishment for the moral decline of its people. Since then, many theories have suggested that Atlantis was located in the Atlantic Ocean, the Mediterranean, or even Antarctica—sometimes linked to extraterrestrials or lost ancient knowledge.
