Simulation theory, popularized by philosopher Nick Bostrom, is based on the idea that a highly technologically advanced civilization in the future could create detailed simulations of reality, including conscious beings like ourselves. According to the theory, it would be possible that we ourselves are living in such a simulation, where our experiences and the entire universe are merely digital constructions. Bostrom presented three possible scenarios: (1) humanity becomes extinct before we can create such a simulation, (2) if we reach that technological level, we choose not to create simulations, or (3) we are actually already living in a simulation and it is impossible to prove. The arguments for the theory are based on rapid technological development and the possibility of creating highly realistic virtual worlds, which leads to the question of whether we may already be part of such a world.
